Interior Designing Basics

Living room decor
Starting with an interior designing project can be very exciting and immensely satisfying if you know how to begin and where to stop. A well planned design will always be helpful i.e. you need to do your homework beforehand. This will help you avoid frequent changes and also abide by the pre-determined budget.
One needs to understand the area that is being designed thoroughly. This will help you select the best suited colors, furniture and other artifacts. Every place in every home has a definite mood to it, for example your drawing room, it should be cool, comfortable and welcoming. Hence colors will need to be selected according to that and the furniture should also be correspondingly chosen. Color schemes play a vital role in setting the mood of a room according to desired intensity and specifics. Being creative while planning the interior decoration of your home is the key to a final successful design.
Your friend’s home may have been done in no time at all because of ready ideas coming in naturally to them. But do not be discouraged if the designs replete with artifacts, patterns, paintings and furniture take some time. With practice, you will be able to refine your skills of developing a plan and then executing it successfully.
Points to remember while designing
- Collect ideas
This is the first most important step in designing a home. You can collect ideas from websites, magazines and by visiting interior decoration showrooms that have room displays.
- Plan the space
The area aimed for decoration and the ideas developed for that area must be in tandem so that you can achieve the desired result when done. For example, if you are designing your kitchen and find that there isn’t enough space for the type of furniture trolley fittings you want, then the entire ideation process is wasted. Outline the requirements and purchase the requisite furniture befitting the design.
- Area
The area available for decorating a certain space is of utmost importance while buying articles such as paintings and also while buying furniture. You will need to buy articles in proportion to the area available. For example, if there is a fireplace and you plan to put up a painting above it, then you will have to select the painting that suits the fireplace well.
- Curtains, drapes, blinds
Select the kind of covering you require in the form of curtains, drapes or blinds. This can be done more on the basis of what will provide comfort inside the room to the inhabitants. Generally there is a wide variety available to cover windows so teaming it up with the rest of the design will not be very tricky.
- Collection placement
If you are an avid collector of books or are a very good photographer with a huge collection of pictures taken, then use these as a part of the designing of your room. But be sure to place them together at a place that will best display the same. Scattering articles of the same category in a single room look tacky.
- Experimentation
You can achieve a great deal by experimenting around the place, be it with colors, placing of furniture or artifacts. Move the paintings around the place to find the best and the most attractive arrangement. Similarly try moving every piece of furniture and other articles to find out the best positions.
