Decorating your home is an exciting prospect; add to that a nursery and you will be glowing with joy. There are various aspects that you need to consider when decorating for your baby. This will essentially be the room where the child will be spending maximum time either sleeping, being fed or playing. A nursery should be a soothing place for the baby so that the baby can be calmed when hungry or ill. Thus it has to be a comfortable place with all equipments required.

Here are a few tips to decorate your child’s nursery.

• Evaluate the space available to fit the required furniture like the baby’s crib, a small table, a small medicine cabinet may be.
• Select a crib that does not have very wide bars that your baby can stick his head in or with shiny paints that come off easily when scrubbed. The crib should be smooth without the trace of nails or other sharp angles. All these can be harmful for your baby.
• There are cribs available with ample storage space for baby clothes and other baby products. You can buy these in case you require the reserved storage space for some other functional purpose. You may even leave the space open for your baby to play.
• You need to select the bedding type for your baby, themed or non-themed. In the themed variety you have country baby, ocean baby, airplane baby beddings etc and polka dots, stripes etc in the non-themed ones.
• Place soft pillows and cushions only if your child is comfortable and is not facing a health risk.
• Painting the walls with pictures, cartoons, characters from fables and fairy tales is a good way to keep your child interested in his surroundings. It will also help in the identification of different colors later on, since such patterns will make the nursery very colorful.
• If you do not wish to paint the walls as mentioned above then you can simply hang pictures of desired characters.
• Stuffed animals are a good way to decorate your baby’s crib but you will have to ensure that these are removed from the baby’s reach when left alone. These can be stacked easily making a way for your baby to get out his crib or can suffocate the child in sleep. Hence give your child stuffed animals to play, that too only if you supervise the play time.
• You can decorate the ceiling with special the moon and stars so that when the lights are turned off, the stars above shimmer. These are glow-in-the-dark variety of decorative merchandize.
• Blankets for your little one can be chosen based on the fabric that suits the baby’s skin type and is comfortable to sleep in. You can buy a baby quilt with attractive baby designs to keep him warm.

You will require additional storage space for toys and gifts that come from your family and friends. Also there has to be storage space for medicines, diapers, lotions, creams etc. You may buy a small rocking chair, life sized stuffed animals to decorate your nursery. These are a great way to help your baby relax when anxious. You can also hang wooden alphabets and posters of poems and stories when your child is a little older and can distinguish between faces and colors.

Bedroom

Unlike all other places in your home, bedroom is an area that is completely private and your own to decorate. It is a highly convenient personal getaway. You need not think of any outside influences when decorating your bedroom. It is a space that can be made symbolic of what you like and prefer in life. Your ideologies can also be a part of your bedroom decoration. It should be designed in a way that provides maximum comfort when compared to any part of the home. This is your place of rest and relaxation, the place to unwind hence it is good to decorate it as suitably as possible, based on your requirements and choices.

Here are a few tips for decorating your bedroom.

• Measure the room and decide on the aspects that you want to devote more space to. For example, if you use your time in the bedroom to read then ensure that you have enough arrangements to stack your books with appropriate lighting directly where required.
• The color combination of your bedroom should be pleasing and relaxing at the same time. Avoid using dark colors that have the capacity to intensify a particular human mood.
• Decorate your bedroom with accessories that absolutely suit the surrounding area. It is a better idea to keep the number of accessories to the minimum since it gives provides for hassle-free movement around the room.
• Use dark colored curtains and drapes for your bedroom for a warm and cozy feel which forms the essence of the idea of a bedroom.
• Choose the electrical appliances as per your requirements. An air conditioner, lamp, additional phone line, heaters etc may be used as per taste and needs.
• It is advisable to keep the area above the head board of the bed clear of shelves or other hanging articles.
• If natural light is abundantly available during the day then make sure that you do not block its path be placing closets or wardrobes. Choose a separate area for wardrobes where you can even have a screen to dress privately.
• It is better to leave electronic devices like computers and television out of the bedroom décor. You can allocate positions for them in other parts of your home.
• You can have a small coffee table to enjoy your first cup of beverage of the day.
• A nice fireplace and sitting area can help you relax. In case of free spaces available in the room, devote them to such creature comforts.
• Use of decorative bed sheets with varied designs can also give a great look to your bedroom. Floral designs, abstract patterns in different colors make the room vibrant and welcoming after a hard day.
• If you are fond of plants and they help you relax, place small plants in decorative pots in a corner of your bedroom. You can also hang pot plants using attractive accessories. But it is important to be aware of the cleaning required while maintaining plants inside your bedroom.
• The floor of your bed room is also a great contributing factor while decorating. Wooden floors, carpeted floors etc have special looks of their own. You can choose the flooring based on your preferences.
• A nice huge bathroom and changing area can also add that touch of glamour with attractive bath fittings, drapes and lights.
