The process of selection should be started by asking questions like the durability and the look of the flooring material along with the special features desired. These features may be water-proof tiles, for example. Choose floor types based on the traffic in the area under consideration as well as the use of that room. For example, when selecting flooring material for your kitchen, opt for the type of flooring that resists dirt and stains and is durable.
You will also have to consider the location of the room that needs flooring. Certain types of flooring are suitable at certain locations only. In case of flooring the basement, you will have to select floor material that does not attract moisture. Laminates are easy to maintain and are highly durable. They give the room a look similar to hardwood flooring. They are stain-proof and scratch resistant, one of the biggest advantages for homes with little kids. They can be easily used in parts of your home that are heavily used, like kitchen and bathroom.
- Vinyl flooring
Vinyl is very popular due to the large variety of flooring available at cheaper rates. It is a highly water resistant floor type and extremely durable. Thus it is used widely in areas of heavy inhabitation or traffic like offices etc. It is available at affordable prices in attractive forms. There are varied colors, patterns and textures available.
- Bamboo flooring
Bamboo flooring is gradually being used as flooring material. It has a unique look quite different from the hardwood flooring available since bamboo is a type of grass and not wood. It is very stylish and has a contemporary look to it.
- Cork flooring
Like bamboo, cork is also a new variety of flooring now available. It is a renewable source like bamboo. It is highly capable of acting as an insulator to changes in the atmospheric temperatures, absorbing warmth during winters and keeping your floor cool in the summers.
