• Flooring

The kitchen being widely used by all members of a family requires flooring that is durable and not easily damaged. If you have little kids all over the place then it is better to have non-slippery, leveled flooring that is also easy to clean, since kids have the habit of picking up things from the floor. Bamboo and wood are great options if your kitchen is heavily used. It is not advisable to carpet the floor since there are spills and leaks while cooking and cleaning.

• Storage

If you require extra storage space apart from the cabinets then you can also experiment with pot hangings and small racks in a corner if the platform that can hold miscellaneous items. If you have chosen wooden flooring for a traditional feel then ethnic pots can be used to decorate the kitchen.

• Lighting

Kitchens require ample lighting as various activities are carried out and different appliances are used for the purpose of cooking. If your dining area is a part of your kitchen then you can have similar overhead lighting for both spaces. Lamps generally do not form a part of kitchens, unlike other rooms of the home; it is not feasible to have them.

• Hardware

Cabinet hardware and other hardware can be chosen in accordance with the objects corresponding to the hardware. Try simple hardware, drawer pulls, faucets, chains, hinges and door knobs. If you like fancy door knobs or drawer pulls then make sure that they are safe and fairly durable. Using highly fancy hardware will take the decency of the décor.
